Elementary Ancient Rome

Welcome to our web site about Ancient Rome.
We hope you find it interesting.

Rome was founded in 753 BC. Nobody really knows who founded Rome, but there is a legend about two brothers, Romulus and Remus, who had a quarrel over some land that was not yet populated. Romulus killed Remus, made a town, and called it Rome.

In 264 BC, Rome conquered all of Italy. By 146 BC, Rome took over Greece. Soon, Rome's boundaries extended to the eastern Mediterranean. In 31 BC, before he became Emperor, the general Augustus conquered Egypt. The empire lasted from 753 BC until AD 1453.

Eventually the Roman Empire got too big to handle. There were not enough soldiers to protect the boundaries. Barbarians took control of this, and attacked at all sides. Rome could not handle the barbarians.
