Nobody really knows when Christopher Columbus' birth was, but we know it was somewhere between August 25, and Oct 31, 1451. His birth place was Geona, Italy. Genoa was the center of government in the area on the northwest coast of Italy. Christopher's birth place was a very important seaport. Genoese ships traded in the Mediterranean region.
Christopher Columbus' family name was Cristoforo Columbo. In our language it would be Christopher Columbus. He called himself Christobal Colon after he got settled in Spain. Columbus' father was a wool weaver. His name is Domenico Columbo. To make a larger amount of money, Domenico got a job as a gatekeeper and a Wine Merchant. Christopher's mom was a daughter of a wool weaver. Her name is Susanna Fontanarossa.
He was the oldest out five siblings. His brothers worked very close with him on his journeys. They might have been tutored or went to a monastery school to learn Latin and mathematics. His education ended when he was about 14.
