The Gray Whale

The gray whale is a baleen whale. It eats crustaceans, krill, plankton and other small things. It uses its baleen, which is made out of a finger nail-like substance, to filter out the small fish. It weighs 36 tons, but all females are larger than the males. This is true with all baleen whales. It is 45-50 feet long. It is gray, with hair on the snout and on the front of the head.

The gray whale migrates 10,000 miles a season. It takes about 2-4 months to get to its destination to mate. It lives 50-60 years.
