Brain buckets

Do you know what brain buckets are?

"Brain Bucket" is a slang term for a helmet. It was given that name because a helmet in a way is a bucket protecting your brain. There are new tests that show if you wear a helmet when you go skiing, under the age of fifteen you could reduce the severity of more than half of the head injuries. If worn by adults it would prevent 44% of the head injuries. There have been improvements in ski equipment, which allow people to ski faster. Speeds can reach up to 40 miles an hour! Most of the ski injuries happen because people go to fast and they lose control. Most of the accidents happened to people in their early 20’s. Experts say that the accidents happen more at the end of the day, because it’s darker out, people are tired, skiers are harder to see, and it is colder out.

Here are some words of advice to prevent ski injuries:

· Slow Down!

· Stay under control

· Ski areas should have all the trails labeled so the beginners can stay on the easier trails

· Know how to use a ski lift

· Avoid the people in front of you

· When merging in to another trail watch closely and yield

· Watch all the warning signs

· And of course WEAR A HELMET!
