Bitter-Root

The Corps of Discovery were the first to find the bitter-root.The roots of the bitter-root were gathered by the Indians and used for food. Bitter-roots have a bitter taste. When they are cooked the bitter taste is gone. Herbaceous perennia,the scientific name of the bitterroot, it is a very beautiful flower The petals are two inches long or more.

Cattail

The cattail is the best known  a wild plant in the Northern Hemisphere that you can eat. Cattail grows in wet places like:swamps, marshes, shallow lakes, ditches, and streams. They grow as tall as three to eight feet. Some of the Plain  Indians used the downy fruits to make dressing for scalds and burns. The Indians also used the downy for diapers.

Chokecherry

cramps and a fever.  He made tea from choke cherry twigs

and he was better the next day.
