Flies

Did you know "true flies" are insects with 2 wings,  mouth pieces that pierce or suck? We didn't. So, that includes flies, gnats and one of our least favorite nocturnal creatures...the mosquito. Of the four genuses, Culex and Culiseta mosquitoes are nocturnal. There are at least 2,500 different species.
Mosquitoes are more than just nocturnal pests that ruin a lot of summer nights. They're disease carriers. Malaria, encephalitis and yellow fever are all spread by mosquitoes. It was once thought that AIDS might be spread by mosquitoes. But, it can't. Luckily for us, the Aids virus dies before the mosquito can get to its next prey.
