layers!
Most Rainforest life is found about 40m. (120 feet) above the ground in the canopy. This is where the branches of the giant trees tangle together to form a lush, green platform. Underneath the platform little can grow in the darkness, light does penetrate through the canopy because it is so thin.  There are three important layers of the rainforest the Canopy (top), the emergent (middle), and the understory (bottom).  The understory is where little of light passes through and is the darkest of all the layers.  The Emergent is the middle of the rainforest and slightly dark and light.  The Canopy is the trees on the top that block some of the light.  Many plant's and animals live in these three layers in order to survive.
