The wahoo is in the same family
as the tuna. They are in tropical and warm temperate seas.
They are one of the fastest fish
known, and they can swim a speed up to 47 miles per hour. They eat
fish, squid and crustaceans. But in coastal waters they eat post-larval
reef fish, bait fish, flying fish, and small tunas. Wahoo have really
sharp teeth that is like a saw-like cutting edge. Their prey are
cut into two to three pieces. Their jaws can be real dangerous to
a fisherman that is careless. Wahoo are found between 140 to 660
feet in deep contours. They lay their eggs in the spring and summer.
Wahoo can reach a length of six feet 11 inches and can weigh 150 pounds.
But the largest ones caught by Guam weighed 70 pounds. |
