Tourism

The Statue of Liberty is now an exciting place for both tourists and other people to visit. People get to the Statue by taking ferryboats. It takes at least fifteen minutes to reach Battery Park. This ride starts at the tip of Manhattan.

This is a picture of the ferry at the dock.

We took this picture as we were walking up the stairs of the Statue of Liberty.

When you reach the Statue there are many places you can go, such as the Liberty Museum--and if you are really hungry there is a separate cafeteria. There is also a sculpture garden with all of the statue's history including information about Bartholdi, Laboulaye, Eiffel, and Pulitzer. When you are done climbing the stairs you can go to a gift shop, which has many items to choose from.

The most exciting thing of all is climbing up the steps. There are 354 steps in all. As you walk up the steps, there are signs that tell you how many steps are left. As you get higher the stairs get smaller and steeper. When you reach the crown there is a very small ramp that allows you to see through the holes. Through the holes you can see Manhattan and the harbor.
