2 Dorm Rooms
Immigrants slept in dormitory rooms off the balcony. From 1900-1908, about 300 detainees slept in each room. Unfortunately, due to a technical problem we cannot show you a picture of a room. However, the detainees slept in triple-tiered bunk beds that could be raised during the day. In this way the dormitory, during the day, was turned into a waiting room. In 1908 balcony dorms were divided into 14 rooms. Then in 1924 bunks were replaced with single beds and real mattresses.

3. Silent Voices Exhibit
Pictures 1through 6 show pictures and artifacts that show how Ellis Island looked when it was abandoned. Pictures 7 and 8 show scaffolding erected during the renovation of Ellis Island.

4. Treasures From Home

Again, we had technical problems with the digital images of this exhibit and could only retrieve these two pictures. The exhibit had lots of costumes, religious artifacts, and pictures that were donated by immigrants.

5. Ellis Island Chronicles
This exhibit tells the history of Ellis Island. Also, there are a couple of rooms with models of how Ellis Island looked in the early years.
