Bengal Tigers are magnificent

Habitat
and Habits
-solitary and do not like to share range
-drag kill remains into brush and bury
-return to eat later
-are numerous in mangrove forests of the Sundarbans
-located in east India and Bangladesh
-located in Nepal and Burma
-need large ranges
-males ranges are 20 sq. miles
-females ranges are 17 sq. miles
-have several dens in home range
-use whatever den in convenient |

Much of a Tiger's day is spent sleeping and grooming.

Food
and Feeding
-are nocturnal
-hunt at night
-powerful and quick over short distances
-stalk prey because can't always outrun them
-to kill prey...
-bite on the back of the neck (for small prey)
-bite on throat (for large prey)
-mainly hunt guar and buffalo
-are capable of killing prey three times their size
-prefer young or old animals
-in natural habitat prey on chital, wild boar, monkey, and rarely porcupine

-1900 through 1972 population dropped
-1900 population= 40,000 to 50,000
-1972 population= 1,850
-good conservation program has increased population to 2,000 |

Occasionally genetic mutations occur that result in a
white tiger.
