Texas03.gif (1189 bytes)Texas entered the Union on December 29, 1845.  It was the 28th state. In the mid-19th century cattle breeding and cotton growing were the main industries.  Texas comes from the word "tejas" which means friend in Spanish.

Texas has a very interesting history.  Start with the year 1800 and develop a time line to the year 1900.  Add interesting events in the history of Texas.
Name two presidents from Texas and write about their contributions to our country.
Make up a cheer for the Dallas Cowboys.
Make a scrapbook of Texas.  Use pictures from travel magazines and the Internet.
Make a crossword puzzle of facts about Texas.
Write a poem about Texas using the state bird, tree, flower, and other important Texas information.
