 Ohflag.gif (1209 bytes)  Ohio entered the United States as the 17th state on March 1st, 1803.   The states name is from an Iroquois term meaning "Fine (or good) river." Ohio’s nickname is the Buckeye State.  Tourists spend more than $ 7.8 billion each year in Ohio. Many tourist spend their time at Lake Erie and the numerous inland lakes.  Ohio has 72 state parks. The capital of Ohio is Columbus.

Need an idea for a school project?  Here are some ideas from  Challenge magazine, issue 77, you can use to show what you have learned about Ohio. 

The capital is Columbus. Using a map, calculate the distances to the major cities from the capital.
Make posters of the Ohio state flower, flag, motto, and bird. Research these symbols.
Make a map of Ohio and the states that border it on all four sides.
