 Neflag.gif (1141 bytes)  Nebraska entered the United States as the 37th state on March 1st, 1861. Fur traders, Spanish and French explorers visited the area before the Louisiana Purchase in 1803.  The first permanent settlement was Bellevue, near Omaha, in 1823. Tourists spend almost $1.6 billion in Nebraska.  Some big tourist attractions are Platte River Valley and Agate Fossil Beds National Monument.  Nebraska has a system of about 87 state parks. The capital of Nebraska is Lincoln.
