Missouri.gif (359 bytes)    Missouri entered the United States as the 24th state on August 10, 1821.  The U.S. acquired Missouri as part of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803.   Tourists spend about $5.6 billion in Missouri. Three tourist attractions are Kansas City, St. Louis, and the Ozark region A main tourist attraction is the arch in St. Louis. Missouri's name is from an Algonquian name for a group that lived near the mouth of the Missouri River.  Missouri's nickname is the Show Me State.  The capital of Missouri is Jefferson City.
