   Mass.gif (324 bytes) Massachusetts- a home to the American tribe called Algoquain. They occupied the area around Massachusetts Bay and the basins of the Neponset and Charles Rivers. Their main village was called Massachusetts. It was in what is now Norfolk County. In 1617 the population was 3,000. By 1633, 500 was the population. That year the rest of the survivors died of smallpox.One famous person from Massachusetts is Benjamin Franklin.
