Tourists visit Louisiana to go freshwater fishing, hunting, and for its quarter horse racing.  Louisiana has 26 parks and recreation areas.  Louisiana is bordered to the north by Arkansas, to the east by Mississippi, to the west by Texas, and to the south by the Gulf of Mexico.
Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle named the state of Louisiana  in honor of King Louis the 14th.  In 1711 it became an independent French colony.  It was purchased by the U. S. in 1803, in the Louisiana Purchase.
