Kansas.gif (368 bytes)    Kansas entered the United States as the 34th state on January 29, 1861.  It is one of the leading agriculture states in the U.S.  The name Kansas came from the Kansa, a Sioux Indian Tribe.  Kansas' nickname is the Sunflower state.
    Tourists spend about $2.2 billion in Kansas.  Some of the tourist attractions include Dodge City and Tuttle Creek Reservoir. Kansas has 23 state parks and 40 state lakes.  Five different tribes that were in Kansas were the Wichita, Pawnee, Kansa, Osage, and the Plains Apache.  Kansas' capital is Topeka.
