Hiflag.gif (1093 bytes)  Hawaii entered the union on August 21, 1959 as state number 50.  Hawaii has an area of 6,459 square miles and is the forty-seventh largest state in the US.  Hawaii the largest island is made up of five volcanoes they are: Mauna, Kea, Mauna Loa, Hualalai, Kohala, and Kilauea.  Kilauea and Mauna Loa are active.  In September of 1992 Hurricane Iniki devastated Kaui.
