  Coflag.gif (1123 bytes)  Colorado entered the union on August 1, 1876 as state number 38. Colorado has an area of 104,100 square miles and is the eighth largest state in the USA. In spanish Colorado means "reddish colored" Colorado is called the Centenial state. 29.85% is owned by the goverenment. Over 14 million people visit Colorado and they spend more than 5.6 billion dollars. The state has 14 parks and recreation areas. The Rocky Mountains start in the middle of Colorado and spreds north and south.

Do you need a project for your school report?  Here are some ideas from Challenge magazine, Issue 81, which  you can use to show what you have learned about Colorado.

Research the Arapaho Glacier and tell how it helps the city of Boulder.
Why is Denver, Colorado known as the Mile-High City?  Make a map showing the different elevations in Colorado.
Colorado is in the Rocky Mountains.  Develop a travel brochure for a lodge you have for rent in the area.
Pike's Peak is the best-known mountain in Colorado.  Tell about one of the   adventurous people who attempted to climb to the top.
Pretend you are about to climb to the top of Pike's Peak.  Write a diary to keep track of your daily adventures.  Write about the food, weather, and dangerous conditions you encountered.
The Dinosaur National Monument is located in Colorado.  Build a dinosaur using clean turkey and chicken bones.
The late John Denver sang about the Rocky Mountains.  Paint a watercolor picture showing what John Denver describes in one of his songs.  Include the song title.
