One of the most interesting "firsts" on Cape Cod, (of which there have been many) is the place where the
Pilgrims were first attacked by Indians on December 8, 1620. The battle was brief, and no more than a skirmish, but the Pilgrims found it important enough to name this beach in Eastham "First Encounter Beach".

The plaque commemorating this event is now located on a rock in front of Eastham's Town Hall.
