This is a view of Bass River as seen from the bridge in South Yarmouth.
This river flows in opposite directions at different times of the day because of tidal effects. It flows northeast when the tide is coming in from Nantucket Sound. When the tide is going out, the river flows southwest towards the Sound.
Smuggler's Beach in Bass River was often used by the early Colonists to smuggle in goods to avoid the British taxes.
