Here is a picture of the bog where most people believe the first cranberries were grown on Cape Cod. Henry Hall of Dennis owned this bog. Originally only wild cranberries grew here.  In 1816, a high tide from a storm washed over the bog and brought in sand. This caused the berries to grow much better and faster. 

Cranberries weren't grown commercially until around 1840 when people like Alvin Cahoon and Mr. Robbins
began to grow them for profit. They were able use what Henry Hall had learned about cultivating cranberries. This bog is still a working cranberry bog.
