Silver or stainless steel brackets and archwires  are the most common types of orthodontic braces.  The thickness of the archwire changes during the course of treatment.

These are stainless steel brackets and archwires with different color ties around the brackets.  Most people get one color tie for all of the teeth and change the color after each adjustment.  Different color archwire is also available but unusual.

These are real gold brackets.  Some people wear them because they have an allergic reaction to stainless steel.  Mostly they are just to make a statement that the braces are like jewelry on teeth.
Photo of Smile with Clear Ceramic Braces
Some people were clear or white color brackets made out of ceramics.  Some times the archwire is also clear so the braces are difficult to notice.

Some people choose lingual braces which are put on in back of the teeth so no one will notice them.  They are usually on adult patients.

Titanium braces look just like stainless steel braces. Titanium is very light weight and strong. Most dental implants in the jaw are made out of titanium.  People with allergies to the nickel in steel often choose titanium braces.  They are more expensive than stainless steel braces.

Did you know?
Some people are allergic to nickel sulfate, the metal in Stainless Steel braces.  Are you allergic? If you are, write what happened to you or what might of in our guestbook.

Enough peple were allergic that scientists came up with a new, improved type of braces made out of  Titanium.  They don't have any nickel sulfate so people aren't allergic to them! If you want to know more, go to the Dentirium website on the Links page.
