Here is how the Sonicare Toothbrush Works:
This electric toothbrush attacks plaque bacteria in hard to reach places.  It cleans with a combination of high speed brushing and sonic wave action, removing plaque bacteria right where they live: hidden between teeth and other hard to reach places under the gums.  It's tough on plaque bacteria but genle on gums and sensitive teeth.  The brush head has the ability to move at 31,000 brush strokes per minute.

The Rota-dent electric toothbrush is available through an orthodontist.   It has many different  types of bush heads to fit different kinds of needs.

FLOSS

Butler Floss Threaders

Glide®  Waxed Floss

Glide®  Floss Holder with Built-In Floss

Floss is an important tool.  Waxed floss should be used because the unwaxed becomes shreaded on the braces.  Floss should be threaded under the archwire before it is passed between the teeth.  Don't force the floss hard into the gums.  The floss needs to be rethreaded for each tooth.  Ask the orthodontist's assistant to teach you how to floss.  The braces should be shiney and the teeth shouldn't have white colored plaque.

Here is Ms. Flossy's Guide to Flossing
Go to Fr. Trepp's website on the Link's Page for tips on flossing with braces

Pull about 18 inches of floss from the box and then wind both ends around your fingers.  Keep the floss tight.
Gently floss between the teeth with about 1" of floss.
To remove plaque and debris, move the floss up and down against the tooth.  This is the key to proper flossing.
As you move from tooth to tooth, use another section of the floss.

PROXY BRUSHES

Oral B Travel Proxabrush
Oral B®  Travel Proxabrush
Proxyabrushes are very thin and long.  They are great for getting food that gets trapped under braces.  There are small pocket sizes and  more high-tech types like the Oral-B proxa-brush in the picture above.

RINSES

Teledyne Water Pik®
The Teledyne Water Pik is an excellent tool for spraying pulsating water or special rinces between the teeth and through the braces.  It targets the plaque bacteria under the gum line.  There are special attachments like the "Pik Pocket Tip" that can deliver rinces to hard to reach places.
