This site is Ok, but I think it is wrong to lead kids into thinking
that a brace will not be painful. Im 19, just had my metal bands fitted
today and the pain was worse than getting teeth extracted. But I know deep
down its worth it, I believe all you kids out there just shouldn't be naive.
It might just be that because I am older my jaws are more developed than
younger peoples', to avoid this get it over and done with AS YOUNG AS POSSIBLE!
There is a possibility that it will be painful but remember, it IS bearable
and it IS worth it.

I have a big space between my front teeth, but pretty evenly spaced
teeth, but one of my teeth next to the front tooth is really small and

I just had four teeth pulled. Two were extra that would not allow
the front baby teeth to come out. So, they gave me an IV then they gave
me six shots in the gum to numb it. They put some medicine thru the IV
into me. It put me to sleep and while I was asleep they took out my teeth.
I woke up when I heard a drilling sound. Then I saw them sewing in my stitches.
At last the doctor gave me my four teeth. After that my mom and the nurse
led me down the back ramp to the car. We then went and got some medicine
for the pain. One week later they cut out my stitches. Now its healed and
it feels much better than it did. I have to get an expander in about 3-6
months and then when I get old enough, I will have to get braces too! I

Hi,I just finished reading all the other entries. Since that I'm
a Brace Face I think I should put in my entry. As for those of you getting
braces, here's the deal: DON'T BE AFRAID!!!!!!! If your scared of getting
braces you should get a mohalk and then,your fear will be worth something.
If your really terribly happy and care-free, well getting braces isn't
exactly like getting a metal toothbrush for the crookedist teeth. There
is some pain, and after you first get them it takes awile to get used to
them. It is also a little hard to eat for the first couple days. Oter then
that getting 'um is fun. Yes, fun. Don't worry about being teased. The
people who are teasing you are proably your try-to-be funny parent ora
friend trying to make you feel better. Besides my advice, I have some questions
of my own. What do you mean when you say change the colors for different
holidays? I don't see any color on mine! Well maybe

Hi:0) I got Braces in October 5 99. I am very proud because I havn't
broken them EVER~! I always put bright colors like blue urple red and orange.
I usualy choose colors that are accosiated with the uocoming holiday. For
anyone who would like to know it does not hurt. I have brace's on the bottom
and it is kinda hard to see them but I still Think they are cool. I don't
know how to thank my orthadontists enough. If I didn't get braces I would
have 2 teeth growing on the lower part of my gum. I recomond clear if youn
are thinking about picking silver because clear looks way more silver.
I was wondering if anyone who is getting or have brace's,Could tell me
what would have happened if they didn't get braces or why they needed brace's

I have braces and they aren't that bad. When I first got them I was
afraid that people would make fun of me. Luckily, they didn't. No one said
anything. And it is cool having braces because you get to change your colors
once a month. Orthodontists have lots of varieties of colors, like glow
in the dark and metallic. The only down side is that you can's have popcorn,
gum, or corn on the cob. And taffy and carmel are out of the question.

pretty exiceted. I didn't get the last part of the cartoon only b/c my
orthodontist instructed me to avoid ice cream so the cement on my teeth

pulled and then the same day and everything im going to get my braces on

All of my friends have braces so it's not as though I will be made fun
of at school. I was on my Orthodontist's waiting list for 2 years so it
is quite a relief that I am getting it now, I have just had the X-rays
done and am going back to have the impressions(moulds) done, then they
will discuss what kind of braces I should be having fitted, you really
don't know how excited I am at getting my brace(well so I should from the
time I had to wait!), the next month is going to pass by so slowly but
at least I don't have to spend that time at school(it's the summer holidays)

I recently went to the orthadontist and he said I should get braces
because of my overbite. At first I refused, I mean if you got a choice
on whether or not to get braces, You wouldn't exactly want to walk around
with metal things on your mouth if you didn't have to. He showed me pictures
of how they coud permanently damage your teeth and that TOTALLY put me
off. He also told me I would have to wear a headbrace to hold the braces
in place at night. Like NO WAY. My teeth don't bother me at all so I decided
not to get them (after writing a list on the good and bad things) I stressed
out alot, worrying but I think I made the right decision. If your thinking
about getting them make a list of the good and bad things. It really helps.

although i am not a tougue thruster, i am a tougue sucker. no, really,
i suck on my tougue. it is the worst habit you could ever get into. not
only does it make your front teeth protude, it also makes your palet higher,
which is also not good. that cause your jsw 2 be very narrow. you end up
w/buck teeth. and people call you names. if you feel you r getting into
the habit of tougue sucking, stop yourself imediatly! trust me on that
one. And if you r a tougue sucker, and r getting braces, if you continue
2 suck after you get ur braces off, you will ruin your smile. it will cause
your teeth to go into the same position that your parents paid so much
money to put a stop 2. if you ahve any questions on tougue sucking, or

ortho. myself! Lets not get into Gore...What i can say is if you have to
wear rubberbands..DO IT! I added one full year onto my braces and i STILL
Have them on my 4th year!!! If you forget to wear your braces for a few
days...and you have an ortho. appointment soon..wear your rubberbands 24
a day..you'll be suprised on how fast your teeth move, its a bit pain full
but you dont get yelled at!

Hi!!! I'm Mike and I have braces. I would like to say that this is
a pretty cool site. I am in grade 12 and graduating in a few days. I have
had braces, retainers and headgear since I was 12. I am even captain of
the football team. Having braces isn't really that bad, unless you have
had them for 6 years. I don't even kow why I still have them on but the
orthodontist insists that I still need them. My parents have spent over
15, 000 to pay for all my appliances including 3 sets of different braces.
I will probably have a mouth full of metal for the rest of my life but
hey it could be worse, or could it? I can't wait until they off and I never
want to see braces ever again!!!!! I don't mean to scare anyone it's just
that my experience with braces hasn't been such a good one.

I got my braces put on today, and after reading the lists of foods
you can't eat this whole expirience seems hideously depressing! No bagels,
chicken, licorice, peaches, red meat or hard food? It makes it seem like
all you can eat for 2 years (or longer) is yogurt and soft mushy food.
I'm already getting frustrated because I can't eat anything with texture!
I'm sure it will get better though!

know how lucky you are to be getting braces early on in life. I am in college
and will have to wear braces for probably twice as long as some of you

Well, I've had various forms of oral appliances (including braces)
since 1993. Braces themselves aren't bad, but a month or so ago I asked
my Orthodontist how long I would have to wear my retainer, and he said
the rest of my life. I'm sorry but i'm not going to be wearing a retainer
when I'm in college, even if it's only at night.

I had my braces put on a week ago. It only hurt when my dentist put
the brackets on. The colors that I picked were pink, blue, and green. Those
are all my favorite colors. But I'm stil deciding what colors to put on
next time. Here's some advice for anyone who is getting braces, or just
got them put on. It hurts for a little while, but when you get used to
them ,they're really a lot of fun!!!! Don't let braces ruin your life!!!
You can still do all the same things, and eat most of your favorite foods!!!!!

I know most people think that it's ok to eat hard candy with braces,
but the truth is it's not. My friend had just gotten braces and she ate
a hard candy. Instead of sucking she chewed it and it made 1 of her braces
VERY loose. That could end up costing alot of money, especially after just
getting the braces on. So stick to sucking when it comes to hard candy!

hey! i had braces for nearly 2 years. i hated them at the time, but
when i got them off i felt so good about myself and i'm so glad i had the
treatment now. if u're getting self-conscious and embarrassed about your
outward appearence (including the braces), try using the time to work on
your inside - your character. then when u get them off u'll b even more
beautiful on both the inside and the outside!! just put up with them, get
over it, and before u know it they'll b off.

and I was surprised that it didn't even take too long . The worst part
is that I have to wear head gear for at least 12 hours of every day and

Hi! I thoroughly looked over this website, and I have a few comments and
suggestions for the creators. I shall start with the comments. (1.) It is very
informative. If I were getting braces, I would feel a lot better. (2.) I am
glad that you include celebrities who have had braces because lots of kids out
there look up to celebrities.[Many even think they were perfect] (3.) It is
very colorful and easy to read.-- Now I would like to make a suggestion: I feel
that it is neccessary to change the outfits of the girls on this website. I
noticed that they are all dressed like, um, well, I can not say on the internet.
They are all wearing tube tops, REALLY mini skirts, and about 8" heels.

i got my top section when i was 11. my brother had already gotten
his top and bottom,so he would give me advice. i just got my bottom section
today. my teeth hurt. my advice to kids who are geting braces is simply
this, make sure you find an orthodonist whos staff and him/herself lets
you know whats going to happen. dont be afraid to ask any questions. dont
get freaked out and try to pry off your braces,their there for a good reason
you'll get used to them after a while. remember, if someone doesnt think
its cool to have braces, and makes fun of you because you're "different",
it just means that they are either just being mean or dont know compleatly
about the purpose of braces. SAY NO TO DRUGS!! and yes to streighter. healthier

I've had braces since November '98....I got them right before a Drama
Peformance where I had to shout out loud. My orthodotist said it would
hurt...but suprisingly it didn't so to all those who are getting braces....it's
not very painful at all... it just depends.....my friend who got braces
the very same day as me still has pain from the sperators (????) well anyway....My
braces will be coming off in November of this year....if I'm lucky. :)

I went to the dentist yesterday and he told me that I may need braces
or else my canines would stick out (how attractive) So im looking all this
stuff up, and looking up a whole mess of Orthadontists too. When I went
to school another girl was getting her spacers put in soon. When we told
people who already had braces they thought a game of "Lets pick on the
new kids" would be fun. Man they made it sound astonishly agonizing, thank

OK, getting braces is not that bad. The only pain you have is when
he puts new things in your mouth like power chains, ties and pulls your
tooth out. It also hurts from pressure when you first get braces because
your teeth aren't that used to the braces. Trust me, you'll do fine!

four days ago. Today is first day my teeth, gums, and mouth did not hurt!

I get braces in two months. Right now I have a retainer that is rainbow
colored. It's kind of annoying, though. I get my spacers in one month,
and the orthodontist says that I have to keep the spacers in for one month!!
Isn't that longer than normal? Please answer. Oh, I have one more question...
What color ligatures should I get for the first month? I have had trouble
deciding between yellow, brown, green, and purple. My mother wants me to
get brown, because that is our family color. (In Bulgaria, each family

One day I found out that I was going to get braces.And it was on
the 29th.I was exited and scared at the same time.WHen I got to the orthodontists
office they put cotton balls in my mouth,YUCK!After they put them on they
