Patients and Parents will get a greater return from thier dental investment by following these instructions
The Bionator orthodontic appliance should be worn at all times except:
1) When eating.
2) When brushing your teeth.
3) When engaging in active sports.
The orthodontic appliance should be placed in a safe place, in its case.  NEVER wrap it up in a napkin or kleenex.  Someone may throw it away unknowingly.

HOW THE BIONATOR WORKS

The orthodontic appliance is so designed that each time the patient moves his jaws, each time he swallows or talks, he activates the appliance, which exerts gentle pressures on the teeth and dental arches.  The Bionator works naturally to properly redirect a patient's jaw growth during normal development.
The orthodontic appliance should fit loosely in the mouth.  This looseness helps to encourage the patient to close his jaws together in the new relationship.
The patient should practice talking with their teeth together.  More rapid treatment results if talking is done with the teeth together in the appliance.  In the first few days, the patient may have a slight difficulty with his speech.  In most cases, he gets used to the appliance quickly and can speak well after three or four days.  After a short while, the excessive salivation will also diminish.
If your Bionator also has a headgear, specific instructions will be given at the time of headgear delivery.  In general, the headgear should be worn each night for the recommended number of hours.  The headgear will increase the effectiveness of the appliance.

HOW TO CLEAN THE BIONATOR

The appliance should be brushed thoroughly after each meal when the teeth are brushed.  The appliance should be brushed with a toothbrush using any of the following: toothpaste, salt and baking soda, or a denture cleaner.  Another method of cleaning is to place the appliance in a glass of water containing an Efferdent or Polident tablet for 10 minutes.  This should be done during the dinner meal so as not to lose any effective wearing time.  The appliance can then be rinsed and placed back into the mouth.
Without cooperation of the above instructions, there can be little, if any improvement.  With good cooperation, one can achieve the maximum results in a minimum amount of time.  Teamwork between the patient, parent and orthodontist is essential for best results.
