Basketball History

Basketball was first played in December 1891. The creator of this great game was James Naismith a P.E. teacher at a recreational center called YMCA (if you didn't know this is the same YMCA as in the song by the "Village People)." He created 13 rules which are still used in the game today . The first professional league formed in 1898 and backboards were founded in 1895. In the 1930's the gameplay was very slow and different from modern times. In 1930 it wasn't uncommon to score in single digits. The first game in 1901 was 9-8.
