In a Greek myth the great bear was a wowan named Callisto with whom Zeus fell in love. Then his wife, Hara, turned her into a bear. One day her son, Arcas was hunting. He saw a bear, but didn't know it was his mother and aimed his bow at her. Zeus saved her by turning him into a bear and he became Ursa Minor ( Little Bear). Zeus pulled them by the tails all the way to the heavens and that is why their tails are so long.
