Ms. Suby

I'm Ms. Suby (my brother got Susan and baby tangled up), and I've been a librarian almost as long as Melvil Dewey.  I've driven a bookmobile, been a children's librarian in public libraries, taught first grade, Library Science and Children's Lit at Arkansas State University and am now librarian at NIC.  I also love to tell stories.  (I have been told that a zoo lives inside me.)

4 years ago, I started learning to use a computer.  Now, I'm teaching a technology class to our 6th graders!  They've learned to type, create documents, research on the Internet, use the online card catalog, World Book online, Power Point, and now, to make a web page.  What a rapidly changing world!  WHEW!

ThinkQuest has taught me a lot about working together.  Some people are good at art, some more analytical.  Some are creative, some zany, some are quiet, and some methodical.  It takes all kinds to make a balanced team.  This group of students has really amazed me.  It's been so much fun to teach them things and then see what they do with them.  They had much better ideas than I ever would have.

I've always loved the Dewey Decimal System, and feel eternally grateful to the late Mr. Rod Swartz (1939-1986), who taught my cataloguing and classification class many years ago in Tulsa.  He taught me fascinating things about using Dewey.   We hope you have enjoyed learning about Dewey, too!
