Let's look at the table again.  If you were looking for a book about how to learn Spanish, you would go to the 460's.  If you want to learn French, 440's is the place for you.  Where would you look if you had to find the Greek alphabet?

This same trick will work in the 800's ( Literature). There is only one exception. In this category, there is one whole segment devoted to American literature, which means that it is from America, to keep it separate from English literature.  If you wanted to look up American literature, you would look in the 810's, but English literature would be in the 820's.
