South Street Seaport has historical ships
for you to visit. You can learn about the history of sailing and
ships in New York if you visit the Seaport. It's all the way downtown.
The New York Public Library is enormous. It's on 5th Avenue and 42nd Street. Not only are there books, but there is an exhibit all the time. It changes every few months. The lions in the front of the library are famous. They stand guard and even wore construction hats when construction workers were working on the library entrance.
The CitiCorp building has an interesting
architecture. Below there are lots of stores and restaurants where
your parents can take you for a nice meal.
New York has really improved lately. The
streets are cleaner and there are lots of shows for kids to see.
The mayor is Rudolph Giuliani. You can visit his web site at:

Did you know that New York is the largest city
in the United States? It's in the southern part of New York State, at the
mouth of the Hudson River. This year, 1998, is the 100th anniversary
of when New York City was chartered. Five boroughs make up New York
City (and they're also counties). They are:
**Manhattan (New York
county)
**Brooklyn (Kings county)
**Bronx (Bronx county)
**Queens (Queens county)
** Staten Island (Richmond
county)
We also call New York City the "Big Apple" and consider it a major world capital. At least that's what our mayor says. New York City is important in the world of finance, arts, advertising, fashion, publishing, communications (both TV and radio broadcasting). We were even on the radio on WNYC's "New York Kids". Will was one of the hosts. (Click here to view our class web site which has photos of our class and WNYC.) The United Nations makes its home here and so do some of the world's largest companies.
