This story has changed the way I look at my
grandpa. I never knew he had so many interesting stories to
share with me. Just imagine, living while the world was at
war. Having friends and family die and not come home.
Everyday fearing an invasion or not living to see tomorrow.
To
know that my grandpa went through this everyday, makes me
consider him a hero. This story was an inspiration to
everyone in my family. It was a wonderful thing for me. I
couldn't believe all the interesting stuff I found. How
would you feel if you found out your great, great, great
uncle had a street named after him, or the fact that your
great grandfather was an Air Warden. That is so cool! He had
to protect people from bombs. Just the fact that my
grandfather was a part of that history is enough for me.
Working on this story also helped me a lot
to understand where I belong in my family. One weekend I'm
sitting with my great grandma, looking in some boxes and I
find Max Westheimer's pocket watch. Before I was involved in
this program all I thought was, "WWII, oh boy. It's just
some dumb war." Now I feel like, "WOW! This war was so
interesting. I never thought WWII affected so many people."
This project has been a lot of fun and taught me so
much.
