My Grandfather's Story

How This Story
Changed Me

NOW IT'S YOUR TURN

I think that this project has changed me a lot. I never have really liked history. Now I think it's a lot more interesting because I like learning about all the things people had to go through for their country. When a war happens, it doesn't just happen to the people in the Army, Navy, or Marines. It happens to everyone. Everyone, everywhere was affected by World War II. It's hard to think that if we had another war that family members ,such as my brother, could be in it.

A war isn't just a little fight it's very important. World War II wasn't just "a war." It's more like "a really important war with family history". I think it's very hard to imagine my grandfather fighting in the war. A war seems scary to me, so I know he must have been very brave to have been a part of World War II.

Before we ever started this project, I always thought my family was just a normal family with no famous relatives or anything. But when I started my project I learned about my grandfather being in the war...That gives me some family history because this war had EVERYONE involved and my grandfather went and fought in it. I guess that makes him famous in a different way.

I've never done a webpage about anyone I have actually talked to and have been related to. Soon, lots of people are going to know about William H. McDonald and how he fought in the war. I think putting family history up on the web is a very good idea. Not just my grandfather's relatives and friends are going to know about him. Since lots of people are connected to the Internet now, people are going to find out about his story and how he fought in the war.

I know a lot more about World War II from learning about it through my grandfather. I have also learned that just one little fight can turn into a big World War that EVERYONE becomes involved in. It's sort of like when one of my friends and I fight over something stupid, then we get other people involved and it turns into this big thing. It's not that pleasant either... just like a war. The only thing I can imagine that's different is that no weapons and blood are involved in a little fight with me and my friends. This project has changed me by making me actually kind of happy when a teacher or someone says "We're going to learn about World War II".
