Heros And Heroines
Perseus
Perseus was a Greek mythological hero. He was the son of
Zeus
[the king of all gods.] Perseus was most famous for the slalying of
Medusa
,the evil monster with snake hair.
Hercules
Hercules was also a Greek hero. He was very strong and cunning. He is best known for when Atlas [Greek god that held the world] tricked Herclues into holding the world for him. Hercules then asked Atlas to hold the world for just a moment and left.
Daedalus
Daedalus was able to build anything. He was a master craftsman. He could build a maze so cleverly constructed that no one could ever find the way out. Once Daedalus built a pair of wings for his son,Icarus, so he could escape from Crete (an island where he was being held hostage.) He told his son not to fly too close to the sun and not too close to the ocean so he wouldn't drown or so his wings wouldn't melt. Of course he flew too close to the sun and his wings started to melt. Then he fell into a neverending hole.
Jason and the Argonauts
Jason lead a flock of black sheep to the Black Sea. He did this in order to receive the golden fleece from the kingdom of Colchis. While on his journey, Media, the daughter of the king of Colchis, fell in love with him and helped him on his journey. She distracted the serpent who guarded the golden fleece while Jason snatched the fleece. Then he returned safely to Greece.
Odysseus, Ajax, and Achilles
Odysseus was the boldest hero who fought in Troy. He fought along side with Ajax and Achilles. Odysseus was clever and cunning. He is most famous for his long journey. Achilles was known to be the more shy or soft spoken kind of guy. Even though his personality was shy he was still one of the greatest war heroes. Ajax was full of courage and bravery. He gave his life to win the war. Theses three heros played a big part to win the Trojan war.
Atlanta
Atlanta could run faster than any man. She was the most beautiful hunter in all the land of Greece. Many men wanted to marry her, but she vowed only to marry someone who could beat her in a footrace. Hippomenes watched many men be defeated and he wanted to beat her in a race. One day the goddess Venus gave him three golden apples out of pity. Hippomenes challenged Atlanta in a footrace. He droped the apples during the race. Atlanta could not resist picking them up. When she picked them up, Hippomenes got ahead of her, and won the race, and Atlanta's hand in marriage.
Bellerophon
Bellerophon was the owner of
Pegasus
(the horse with wings) He tamed Pegasus, and flew everywhere on his back. Together they fought and killed the evil Chimera, who was part goat, lion, and snake.
