Zeus
Zeus
was the king of the gods. Zeus was the son of Cronus and Rhea who were both Titans. Zeus was the father of Apollo, Ares, Artemis, Athena, Dionysus and many more, by nymphs, Titanesses, goddesses and mortal women. Zeus was the sky and weather god. He had power over the sky, the wind, the clouds, rain, thunder and lightening. Zeus was the brother of Hades, Hestia, Demeter, Poseidon and Hera. Zeus was usually shown wearing a crown of oak leaves and holding a scepter in one hand and a lightening bolt in the other.
Hera
Hera
was the wife and sister of Zeus. She was the mother of Ares, Hebe, Hephaestus,and Eileithya. Hera was the goddess most concerned with the well being of women and children. Her name meant lady. Hera is mostly depicted as a young woman decked out in full royal attire. Though Hera was faithful in her marriage to Zeus, he was forever cheating on her, and she was very jealous.
Athena
Athena
was the daughter of Zeus and Metis. Athena was the goddess of war, peace and compassion. She was the patroness of arts and crafts, a patron of cities and the goddess of wisdom. The city of Athens was named after Athena. Athena is mentioned in many stories and myths. The Acropolis, a temple in Athens, was dedicated to Athena.
Poseidon
Poseidon
was the sea god. He was the brother of Zeus, Hera, Hades, Hestia and Demeter. His wife was Amphirite. Poseidon's emblem was the three pronged trident. Poseidon was the creator of horses and the bridle which controls the horse. It is also said that horse racing was also spread by him.
