Battle Of Bunker Hill
Both the British and the Americans wanted to gain the hills that overlooked Boston. Americans were the first to move. They had prepared to put forts up at Bunker Hill , but they put up forts at Breed's Hill instead because it's closer to the city. On June 17 , 1775 General Howe led the British to Breed's Hill to attack the American forts. The Patriots were ordered to not fire until they see the white in their eyes. The British were stopped twice on two charges. On the third charge their bayonets forced the Americans to flee. This was called the "Bloodiest Battle in the war." About 1000 British soldiers died and were wounded , and about 400 American soldiers died and were wounded.
