Young George

George was originally born on February 11,1732. When George was 20 Britain switched to the Gregorian calender. George grew up near Fredericksburg, Virginia. He had 1 younger sister and 3 younger brothers, he also had 2 older stepbrothers that went to school in England. As a boy George never cut down a cherry tree that myth was created by: "Parson" Weems. Washington worked hard in school and learned: geography, arithmetic, astronomy, and surveying. When George was 11-years old his father died and he became very close to his older stepbrother Lawrence. He liked to visit him at the house his father built on the Potomac river. Lawrence named the estate after his commanding officer, Admiral Edward Vernon of the British navy.
