The first White house was built in New York City, but it never got finished when the capital was moved to Philadelphia. It was razed in 1815. The second White house was built in Philadelphia, around 1800. But the capital was moved again.This time the capital was in Washington DC. The White house was without furniture until some was borrowed from White house #2. All the presidents lived in the house except George Washinton and Madison. The White house shows democracy because the president lives there.
