The American flag first was sewn by Besty Ross. It had 13 stars and 13 strips to represent the thirteen original colonies. The goverment wanted to change the flag when more states joined, but they decided not to add anymore strips on the flag. Then a congress man stood up and asked,"Why don't we add more stars?" So since we now have fifty states we have 50 stars on the present American flag.The three colors on the flag represent, red: hardiness & valor white: purity blue: justice
