The Star of India was a ship that sailed in the 1870's. It sailed around the world 22 times. Another name for the Star of India is the Euterpe. The Star of India isn’t aStar of India duplicate of the vessel, it is the real vessel.   This ship carried people all over the world who wanted to start a new life. The Star also carried many different types of cargo. On the Star or on any ship in the 1800’s there were different classes of people. There were first class, middle class, and a lower class accommodations. A passengers wealth determined which accommodations they were given. The wealthiest people got more advantages on the ship. There were different sleeping quarters for each class. In this way, the Star was very similar to the Titanic. The Star of India is an overnight program based on what it was like to be sailor aboard the Star in the 1800’s. Once aboard the Star, we were separated into groups or crews. Crews consisted of a maximum of 5 sailors. Once you boarded the ship you had to pretend to be a boy (if you were a girl). In the 1800’s, there were only men on the ship. It was considered bad luck for a girl to sail on a ship like the Star of India.
