Have you ever researched your school name and made a web page
out of it? Well our Think Quest Jr. group did, and it took a lot of work. We had to meet
with everybody and talk about what we were going to research. Then we had to talk about
what we were going to have on the web page. Then we had to go down to the library and
research the things that we were supposed to. Then we had to get on the computers and type
the stuff that we had written down. Next we had to figure what pictures we could put on it
and what pictures or characters we could draw to put on them. and after a lot of editing
on the pictures and the writing we had to put it all together on a web page. And then we
had our web page.
Our sixth grade classes celebrated the 200 th birthday of our school founder and benefactor, Hiram Bellows, by studying the his life and times and also by studying things that were happening between 1798 and 1876. We made a huge timeline of events of these events, including some inventions, political leaders, clothing of the time, important transportation like the railroad and other special events in Vermonts history. The six of us who are on the ThinkQuest junior team choose to show you some of the things we came up with. We had a huge birthday celebration on February 13, 1998 complete with a Hiram Bellows look-a-like contest. We hope these will give you ideas about studying about your founder and things that were going during that time period.
We are inviting you to make a web page about your school namesake so look around our web site for ideas, then check out our form on its web page. We want to exchange lists of web pages about lots of school founders all over the world. We had to write down a whole list of things so get ready to write and to read and type. You might need a notebook or a whole bunch of paper to write down all the information you collect.
