Baseball
Baseball began in 1787, but final rules did not materialized till 1845 by Alexander Joy Cartwright.
Professional baseball was introduced in 1885.
The first curve ball was thrown in 1867.
The Negro World Series began in 1924.
Each team has nine players on the field.
Designated batter was introduced in 1973.
While one team is in the field the other is up to bat.
The pitcher (on the fielding team)tries to strike out the batter or make the batter miss the ball. If the batter strikes out three times meaning swinging the bat and missing the ball he is out. That counts as one out. Three outs are needed for the other team to be at bat.
Outs can also be made by catching the ball, tagging the runner or by touching the base before the runner running to another base touches the bases he is headed for.
When the batter hits the ball he runs to base, if he hits the ball out of the park he gets a home run. If all the bases have runners on them and the ball is hit out of the park it is called a grand slam.
