HOW TO PLAY FOOTBALL

The playing time in college and professional games last 60 minutes long. A game is divided into halves. Each half, turns in, consists of to quarters. A brake called half-time that last 20 minutes between halves. There are also 1 or 2 minute rest periods after the first teams change goals.

The official time clock is stopped only for 5 reasons after an incomplete pass, if a player is injured, after a team scores, if the ball carrier goes out of bound or if a player on either team calls time out. Each team may call up to 3 time outs each half. Time outs last 2 minutes in NFL games. In college games, the clock is stopped after each first down to move the first down marker. During the final 2 minutes of NFL games, the clock is stopped after some plays while the ball is position for the next play.

Then kickoff starters each half of a football game. A team also kicks off after it scores a touchdown or a field goal. The team that kicks off to begin the game is decided by a coin toss at midfield. The visiting team calls "heads" or "tales". The team that wins the toss can choose 3 options make the kickoff, receive the kickoff or select the goal it wishes to defend. In most cases, teams choose to receive the opening kickoff to get the first chance of scoring. The team that loses the toss gets the choice of kicking, receiving, or defending either goal when the second half begins.

Teams in college and the NFL off from the 35- yard line. Most kickers place- kick the ball. Before kicking the ball, they set it on an angle tee.

The kicker's teammates stand in a line across the field until the is in the air. The receiving team places two fast runners near its goal line. The runner nearest to the ball catches the ball and runs it to the other team's goal. The kick returner's teammates try to block the opposing team, who is runner down the field to tackle him.

After a kickoff and the ball travels 10 yards, it becomes a free ball that is, either team may recover the ball. Normally the kicker tries to kick the ball as far down the field as possible. Occasionally, the kicker will kick the ball only a short distance to give his team a chance to recover the ball before the other team gets the ball. This maneuver is called an onside kick.

The ball is ruled dead if it goes pass the end zone or if the ball returner gets the ball in the end zone then touches the ground with his knees. Then a touchback is called, and the ball is put on the 20 yard line. If the ball goes out of bounds before reaching the goal line without being touched, it must bee kicked again.

The ball returner goes out of bounds or any part of his body touches the ground out of bounds In the NFL, the kick returner must be downed by an opponent. If the runner slips, falls or trips but is not touched by an opposing player he may get up and run with the ball until he is tackle or goes out of bounds.

Advancing the ball. After the kick returner has been downed, the ball is placed at the point where the returner has been tackle. The offensive and defensive teams then come on the field.

The offense has four try to gain ten yards by running or passing the ball to a teammate. If the offense team fails it become second down. If the offense team does not gain ten yards the defense team gets the ball and then can try to get ten yards to get a first down.

Before a play begins, each team gather in a huddle behind its side of the line scrimmage. In the huddle, the quarterback names the team's next play, the formation to be used, and the number of color he will call out to signal the center to snap the ball. In the defense huddle, a formation is called that the team hops they will stop the touchdown. A touchdown gives 6 points. The offense scores nearly all the touchdowns. It does so by running the ball or catching a pass over the opposing team's goal line. Occasionally, the defense scores a touchdown by an interception or a fumble or by recovering a block punt in the end zone.

Conversion. Immediately after a touchdown, the scoring team tried for a conversion, also called a extra point or point after touchdown. Before a conversion attempt, the is placed on the 2-yard line in the NFL games. A kicker scores one point places kicking the ball over the crossbar and between the goal posts. In the NFL , a successful conversion scores one point kicking, passing or running over the goal line.

Field goal. A field goal is when a team gets the ball over the goal line. Then they get to try to kick the ball over the crossbar from any where on the field.

Safety. Only the defense can score a safety, which counts two points. The defense earns a safety if it tackles the ball carrier in its touch down zone, if the ball carrier steps of the zone sideways or out the back of his zone, or they block the punt goes out of the end zone.
