FRINGE REEFS       Fringe  reefs   border  the  shoreline .  Fringe  reefs  grow  in  shelves  of  rock  that  extend  from  the  shores  of islands  and  continent  in  the  ocean .     Fringe  reefs  are  separated  from  the  land  by  a  narrow   stretch  of  water  which  is  shallow  enough  to  wade  across  when  the  tide  is  out.
