History

Soo Canals
The world's largest and busiest locking system permits ships to pass between Lakes Superior and Huron.
They are on the United States-Canadian border. Click here for pictures of the locks.

At the Soo Locks Information Center visitors can see a video about the locks' history and how they work.

The Soo Locks Boat Tour will give you a two-hour tour through the locks. You get to see the locks just as the big ships do.

Soo Locks Train Tours are about 2 hours long and take you through the United States Sault Ste. Marie, over the International bridge, and through the Canadian Sault Ste. Marie. Many historical sites are described on these tours.
