Colonial
Michilimackinac - the British had abandoned and burned this
fort and fur-trading village by 1779-1781 but most of it has been
restored. The longest archaeological dig in North America is
here. New buildings are added as they are uncovered. There is a
focus on the daily living of the 18th century as re-enactments
are presented. The Indian encampment with tippee's is interesting
and so is the cannon firing and muzzle-loading demonstrations.

Historic Mill Creek - a working sawmill at the site of a 1780's sawmill. Scenic nature trails and overlooks gives views of Mill Creek, the Straits of Mackinaw and Mackinaw Island. A museum displays items found in archeological digs on the site. US 23 1/2 southeast of Mackinaw City. Spring, summer and fall hours. 616-436-7301.
Mackinaw Bridge - spans 5 miles or 8 kilometers across the Straits of Mackinaw, connecting the upper and lower peninsulas of Michigan. Join the annual Labor Day Monday walk across the Mackinaw Bridge.
Mackinaw Island - get there by ferry, hydroplane or Catamaran from May to mid-October. Travel this three-mile-long island by foot, bicycle or horse - no cars are allowed. Carriage tours are a popular way to see the island. Explore this site for Mackinaw Island History.
