In 1934 a paleontologist named G. Edward Lewis was looking through ancient deposits in Siwalik Hills, in northern India. He found some teeth and pieces of a jaw. They were in pieces of rock that were much too prehistoric for even Australopithecus (Austria-pith-he-us). This prehistoric person was of the Hominid (Hom-ih-nid) family. Hominids are creatures, of the human family. They are more like human beings than apes, and have been evolving for 24 million years. Features that mark the Hominid family are walking on two feet ( bipedal), larger brain, smaller face structure and teeth and use of tools.
