Seismologists have been trying to predict earthquakes since
1970. The seismologists believe that an earthquake will occur
when stress in the Earth at a given location is greater than
the rock’s strength. Unfortunately, this is very difficult
to measure. There is no known way to predict an
earthquake at this time.
