Hurricanes

What is a Hurricane?

Hurricanes are violent storms. It forms when there is a warm sea and the air is hot and moist. The air circles around and around as it rises. It goes faster as it goes round and round. The wind then starts roaring and a whole bunch of rain beats down. Hurricanes can cause a lot of damage as soon as it reaches the ground. The center of a hurricane is the eye. The eye can be 20 miles across and the wind is calm. Radar or airplanes can track it down. Weather satellites traveling around the earth can photograph the hurricane.
To be classified as a hurricane, winds speeds in the storm must be greater than 120 kilometers per hour.
